Topps Tiles to close 23 stores

Topps Tiles has announced it will close 23 stores as part of what it described a “series of self-help measures”.

The tiles retailer said it expects the move to reduce overall Topps Tiles revenue but improve profitability through sales transference and cost reduction.

Topps Tiles, reporting a trading update for its H1 period to 28 March, announced a total group revenue of £142.7m, a 0.1% dip compared to H1 last year.

The group said it had continued to “outperform” the wider market, but warned that a softer home improvements and DIY market, and to offset government and macro-driven cost inflation, it will roll out a series of self-help measures to continue driving sustainable profit growth in the medium term. Topps Tiles said the savings from its 23 store closures will be weighted towards H2.

“Topps Tiles continues to outperform a softer market,” Topps Tiles chief executive, Alex Jensen, commented. “In light of subdued consumer sentiment and geopolitical uncertainty as well as the cumulative impact of cost inflation, the management team is implementing a targeted programme of self-help measures weighted towards the second half.

“These actions are designed to support year on year profit growth and provide a stronger financial platform for 2027 and beyond.”

Topps Tiles will publish its H1 interim results on 19 May.
