Young’s serves up strong trading following ‘excellent weather’

Young’s has described its trading in the 26 weeks to 28 September as “strong”, following "excellent weather" and a summer of sport.

In this period, the pub operator reported a 10.4% increase in its revenue, following a "record-breaking performance" last year. Furthermore, its sales in the 13 weeks to 28 September rose by 7.9%.

The firm said that it has benefited significantly from a “standout summer of sunshine and sport”, with strong trading over the May bank holidays, particularly in its pubs with gardens and riverside locations.

The weather also coincided with the FIFA World Cup, where extended opening hours for England’s matches led to boosted sales across its estate.

Young’s added that it continues to deliver against its strategic priorities, and has completed the integration of its Cubitt House London Pubs, which it acquired earlier this year.

During the period, it has also delivered an important corporate milestone, successfully moving from AIM to the official list of the London Stock Exchange’s main market.

As a result of its latest financial figures in H1, the pub operator said its trading for the full financial year is expected to be ahead of current market expectations.

Following this announcement, shares in Young’s increased by 8.8%

Young’s CEO, Simon Dodd, concluded: "Boosted by excellent trading across the summer months, supported by the record weather and exciting sporting events, Young’s has delivered another period of outstanding performance. Our relentless focus on quality meant that when the sun shone and the matches were aired, customers chose Young’s for our premium offer and the fantastic atmosphere created by our brilliant teams.

"Cubitt House’s exceptional collection of pubs are now fully embedded into the Young’s family, and we continue to deliver against our strategic priorities.

"Despite the well-publicised headwinds that face our sector, our premium estate continues to outperform, and we now look forward to delivering a full-year performance that exceeds previous expectations."
