Evri to recruit further 9,000 staff following £2.7bn takeover

Evri is set to take on a further 9,000 members of staff across key locations, after the courier firm was acquired by Apollo Global Management last week for £2.7bn.

The company has picked key location for the new jobs, including in Scotland, Bury St Edmunds, Plymouth and Gatwick airport.

As part of the increase in staff, Evri, formerly known as Hermes, has said that it hopes to deliver up to four million parcels every day, with 8,000 courier staff to be taken on as well as 1,000 warehouse and other supporting roles.

Sky News reported last week that the deal between Evri and Apollo came after firms including JD.com and DHL were both interested in the delivery firm.

The outlet added that the deal "reflects the more complex antitrust implications of a sale to another industrial buyer".

Chief executive at Evri, Martijn De Lange, said: "We know that service, reliability and quality are critical factors for our clients and consumers. We have an industry-leading 99% on-time delivery rate and our couriers have received more than three million five-star reviews on Trustpilot and customers using our own app rate their courier 4.7 out of five on average. New client wins, and increased parcel volumes are proof of the trust customers have in our service and biggest-ever recruitment drive promises to deliver another record year.

"Evri is also on the way to be the most sustainable parcel delivery company by building the largest sustainable fleet of e-cargo bikes, with more bikes than ever on the road in 2024, as we move towards our goal of becoming net-zero by 2035."
