Joanne Wilson has been appointed as the new CFO at Diageo, replacing Nik Jhangiani.
She is currently CFO at WPP, having previously held senior financial and commercial roles at Britvic, dunnhumby, Tesco and KPMG. Wilson will join Diageo’s board and executive committee in 2027.
Jhangiani was previously CFO at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP), the world’s largest Coca-Cola bottler with revenues of over €18bn in 2023, a role he has held since 2016. He joined Diageo in Autumn 2024, serving as CFO.
Chief executive at Diageo, Sir Dave Lewis, said: "It is a real pleasure working with Nik and I would like to thank him for his support to me and his significant contribution to Diageo. Nik and I have agreed that, now we have shared our new Strategy, this is the right time for this change. Nik will remain in role to ensure a smooth handover to Joanne.
"Joanne is a very experienced CFO and commercial leader who will ensure we accelerate the turnaround of Diageo, having already delivered extensive transformations in her previous companies. I am looking forward to welcoming her to Diageo and the executive team."
Wilson added: "I am delighted to be joining Dave and the entire Diageo team at such an exciting point in the company's journey. Diageo has a unique portfolio of global brands and a clear strategy with significant opportunities ahead. I very much look forward to working together with all colleagues to consistently create value for shareholders and strong outcomes for all stakeholders."
Head of markets at AJ Bell, Dan Coatsworth, concluded: "Dave Lewis is getting the old gang back together again. Hiring former colleagues is a classic move in the business world as leaders bring on people they know they can trust to get the job done.
"Lewis has poached Joanne Wilson from WPP to be Diageo’s chief financial officer. They used to work together at Tesco and will have no doubt developed a strong working relationship, with many processes that worked before potentially set to be repeated at Diageo.
"Lewis has a lot of difficult decisions to make to get Diageo back on top and needs a trusted numbers person at his side. Wilson’s current role at WPP means she has important experience at a big business that has lost its way – precisely the case with Diageo.
"Wilson used to be the finance boss of Tesco’s analytics arm, Dunnhumby, and will know the power of data to not only give valuable insight into customer trends, but also to make a business run more efficiently. Any cost saving that can be achieved could add up in a meaningful way – after all, every little helps."
